werewolves
werewolves can be born naturally between two individuals of the werewolf species. all werewolves begin in their feral form (a whelp) and slowly grow into a puppy. during the younger years is when all werewolves will be taught how to transform into their human form as well as their more recognizable (anthro) werewolf form.the feral form is their most basic and least energy consuming form. the human form is the second least energy consuming form, werewolves spend a lot of time and practice learning how to transform regularly between the human and feral form. human form is practiced more often because of the general attitude of modern human society is to assimilate with humans. the anthro werewolf form is the most primal form and is typically only used in extreme cases, consuming the most energy as the werewolf is at their most powerful in all aspects.
modern werewolves
modern werewolves tend to live amongst humans, no one knowing their true identities. some modern werewolves can mate with humans and live happy lives. many choose not to disclose their species to their human partners. most werewolves will not have a clan or tribe that they belong to or are aware of, only knowing their elders by who their parents or other werewolves introduce them to.modern werewolves require a specific herbal mix to be given to them by an elder in order to breed with humans.modern werewolves believe that this protects future generations and ensures the survival of the species. many werewolves enjoy the ease and convenience of modern human living.Elders often disguise as "grandparents" to modern werewolves, typically in suburbs that is within reach of many werewolves and are easy to access by bike, bus, train, or car. Elders take in any werewolves without an existing Elder they know of, effectively grandparenting a new werewolf. Elders are typically consulted when needing to mate with a human, giving blessings upon the announced pregnancy and giving an offering to the couple. The offering, when brought to the location of the whelp's birth, will help the newborn transform to a human infant before it exits the mother.Naturalists argue that werewolf culture and identity is often lost or muddied by the constant intermingling of humans. Naturalists find it heartbreaking that whelps will never know their clan, have primal bonding with their parents or walk freely on their ancestor's land.
naturalist werewolves
Naturalist werewolves often live in a village with their clan or a "found tribe" on the territory of the clan. all clans behave differently, have different rituals/cultures, have different sets of societal norms, yet most agree to remain friendly when traveling through another clan's territory to keep peace. tribes that exist on the lands of clans must get permission from the clan's elder; tribes are rarely turned away and sometimes are invited to join the clan itself. because humans have built cities, towns and settlements on much of their ancestor's land, many are forced to live on what little sometimes remains of their land.intricate rituals are performed by the elder and their offpsring on any mated pair that wishes to become pregnant, ensuring fertility for 24 hours after the ritual takes place. often the ritual is performed before dawn with the mated pair, throughout the day offerings are left at the outside of the pair's home. the pair will announce pregnancy to the elder; if pregnancy was not achieved then the fertility ritual can be attempt three times in one year. Adoption, surrogacy and fostering are all options to the pair if they so choose.Whelps are raised by the community so the mothers have time to look after themselves. a mother may choose to deny the community to raise her whelp if she prefers, the community will help in other ways if she so requests. the other half of the pair will hunt, cook, and care for the home while the mother is recovering from birth. all werewolves learn to live as their ancestors did, including rituals, crafts and hunting/gathering.elders are the center of the village and head of the clan, often helping the clan members with anything they need. despite living off the land, some clans may have working water systems or even electricity if the village is close enough to rural areas.Modern werewolves argue that raising whelps in a world without much human interaction can lead to bad socialization and behavior.
modern werewolf society considers it "most desirable" to live amongst humans and be certain of the species' survival. naturalist werewolves still exist, preferring to live off the land of their ancestors and in close knit commune as part of a clan or to form a tribe. some werewolves who leave their originating clan can form tribes or join other clans with the blessings of their elders.progression of the species relies on not disclosing their existence to humans as a whole to avoid hunting and prosecution like their ancestors before them. most werewolves agree that the murder of humans does not further the progression of the species and only endangers others.
family
bonding between blood family and community family is necessary if not a primal desire for werewolves. as whelps grow into pup, sexual bond is initially established as pups enter their first heat. it's normal for the werewolf parent to relieve their pups of their needs and their bond is strengthened until the pup is able to do it themselves.many werewolves will feel that some community members of similar age will be their siblings and have a close bond to them, often mating with other members to strengthen or reinforce the bond between them. mating with family will not grant fertility from an elder or alpha, even if it's a mated pair.seldom will werewolves never mate or become a pair with anyone outside their family. due to fertility not being an option for pairs in a blood family, it poses no threat to progression of the species overall.
mated pair
human mate
werewolves can mate with a human and become a pair, even if the relationship appears as an average human relationship. fertility is impossible without the blessing and herbal mix from an elder. a mated pair is likely to go through typical human legal system and have a human wedding. sometimes there is preference for a werewolf ritual of life, usually performed after a whelp is born.werewolf mate
when two werewolves become a pair, they can mate in whatever form is typically comfortable for them. it's not uncommon for there to be a 'mix' of forms when mating. werewolves do not require any recognition to be a mated pair but many like to announce when they've formed a pair. pairs are typically for life but can be broken/separated at any time. mated pairs still have sexual bonding with others as is the norm; a minority of werewolves choose to be a mated pair exclusively for life.
human to werewolf ritual
humans who are mated to werewolves may learn of their partner's species. sometimes a human may want to join their partner's clan or tribe for various reasons. the ritual is only performed for a human mated to a werewolf.humans can become werewolves through a ritual, typically performed by the elder or the clan's alpha during specific weather conditions and during a specific phase of the moon. the elder or alpha will combine their blood with alcohol, the human wearing a fur of an ancestor's enemy. the fur in addition to the werewolf blood will allow for their blessing to be granted, changing the human partner into a werewolf and whelp of a few years of age. the newly transformed werewolf must then learn to transform to their human self like all werewolves.the ritual is irreversible and typically can only be performed 2 - 4 times a year.
life cycle
werewolves can live to be a couple thousand years old, possibly longer, but no one can be certain. the oldest living werewolf was reported to be almost 2,200 years old before becoming a hermit on an island in the pacific.when a werewolf is carrying a whelp, the pregnancy is similar to that of a wolf, about 62 - 74 days (~2.5 months). a human carrying a werewolf whelp will have the pregnancy span of an average human pregnancy of about 9 months.in mixed species relationships, a werewolf will always be born 100% werewolf, regardless if it's a human giving birth to them.
born from werewolves
werewolves are born as whelps in their most primal form. the type of canine a whelp is born as will depend on genetics, where the clan originated from and the mated pair themselves. whelps age quickly into pups, learning how to transform reliably into their other forms after a few weeks. as whelps begin to become pups, they enter their first 'heat' cycle as they start puberty.pups quickly age into their early teens where aging rapidly slows, allowing werewolves to endure their twenties and thirties for multiple decades. once adults, werewolves no longer experience a heat cycle. while physical aging does come to a crawl, the werewolf is always learning and gaining wisdom.
born from humans
whelps are often born as human infants when they are pulled from their birthing human, due to offerings given to the parents from an elder. because of their advanced transformation, the werewolf typically lives their life as an average human child, aging accordingly. werewolf children living in human society without knowledge of their species will subconsciously slow their own aging process to match that of the humans they see around them.many whelps born into mixed species families do not learn of their species or abilities unless told by their werewolf parent. it's not unusual for some werewolves to never be told or learn of their species and consequently never know their culture or reasons for "infertility".
human forms are changed only by the werewolves' desire to 'age appropriately' to others around them, while feral and anthro forms will only show age through the change of fur color. werewolves with darker fur will slowly have white fur slowly take over, while werewolves with lighter fur color will experience some 'highlighting'.supreme alpha is a status granted to the offspring of elders that show leadership that could continue the clan after an elder's possible passing. many werewolves are born as alphas and betas with rare omegas; typically these have little to no bearing on their lives outside of clan power structure in relation to the elder or select rituals within clans. typically a life cycle will end when a werewolf wishes to 'pass on', in which a ritual is performed to allow their spirit to leave them. typically this is done with a mated pairs' consent. it's normal for elders to have a ritual passing before other members of the clan or tribe.werewolves can only be killed by decapitation. other means, such as immolation, are not guaranteed. rarely, there is the gruesome suicide.
